Roy Hill’s innovative approach to protecting its people has been recognised by taking out the Excellence in Mine Safety award in the OH&S category at the highly regarded 2024 Australian Mining Prospect Awards

The award acknowledges Roy Hill’s successful implementation of its ‘Safer Summer program, a proactive initiative designed to mitigate safety risks posed by the searing temperatures in the Pilbara and the added distractions during the holiday season, particularly in the lead up to Christmas.

The program resulted in an impressive 36% reduction in recordable injuries compared to the previous summer period.

The Safer Summer campaign, implemented across all Roy Hill operational sites, incorporated two core elements:

  1. Promoting knowledge sharing: Monthly safety topics provided employees with relevant information and practical strategies to enhance safety awareness and best practices.

  1. Encouraging team engagement: The “We Care Team Safety Challenge” was developed on an interactive platform for teams to participate and share hazard control initiatives. All entries were considered with the top five receiving funds to donate to a charity of their choice. Win-win!

Roy Hill has a proud association with the Prospect Awards, winning the Australian Mine of the Year and Mining Innovation gong in 2023 for its groundbreaking interoperable autonomous haulage project, the Mine Project Success of the Year for the expansion of the impressive Wet High Intensity Magnetic Separation (WHIMS) program in 2022, and selected as Australian Mine of the Year alongside Roy Hill Executive Chairman, Mrs Gina Rinehart AO, being presented a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2021.

Congratulations to all award recipients at the 2024 Prospect Awards.
