A purr-fect opportunity for our people

While the deep red dirt of the Pilbara is synonymous with West Australia, for those who have grown up on the west coast, a certain feisty feline conjures a similar association with the state.

So, it was with a huge amount of excitement that Roy Hill people based on site welcomed the illustrious Fat Cat for a flying visit supporting Telethon.

Roy Hill is a keen supporter of Telethon with year-round fundraising, which, thanks to the commitment of employees and Executive Chairman, Mrs Gina Rinehart AO, provides millions of dollars that helps fund more than 107 beneficiaries dedicated to supporting children in need.

Roy Hill’s Ginbata aerodrome is the primary point of entry for people working at the company’s mine, and this week they were greeted with a high five and a friendly wave from Fat Cat, bringing plenty of smiles and selfies!

Not one to just sit around, Fat Cat’s tour of Roy Hill was action packed. It included a visit to the processing plant, various mining areas, and the mechanical workshop where some of the biggest earth moving equipment on the planet are maintained. He even found time to see off a train loaded with ore destined for shipping through Port Hedland and onto the steel mills of our international customers.

Roy Hill is famous for its pink haul trucks, and Fat Cat was excited to have the opportunity to sit in the driver’s seat. Like most seven-year-olds, Fat Cat loved sitting behind the wheel of this huge machine, dreaming of the day he could drive one of his own.

After a busy schedule, Fat Cat headed to the dining room where delicious S. Kidman & Co rump steak was one of the star attractions on the menu, and what cat wouldn’t be content with a big dollop of Bannister Downs double cream for dessert, and a glass of WA fresh Bannister Downs milk – his favourite beverage!

While there was plenty of fun to be had, the important message behind Telethon’s impact on thousands of young lives each year wasn’t lost on those who had the chance to meet and greet WA’s most well-known moggy.
