Response to recent media: Roy Hill COVID Measures

Through the generosity and guidance of our Executive Chairman, Roy Hill is known for its commitment to the health and wellbeing of its people, including family-friendly rosters, significant investment in site facilities and industry-leading bonus programs.

Roy Hill has also delivered on this commitment through its response to COVID, including providing RAT kits to all Roy Hill employees to use as needed with their families and flying asymptomatic COVID positive cases back to Perth to isolate in the comfort of their homes wherever possible. In addition, we have introduced contractor payments through until the end of June, ensuring they are paid for any rostered days off work missed due to isolation on-site, and are also paid a capped amount for RnR days spent in isolation on sites.

However, we also recognise the important role we play in protecting the vulnerable local communities where we operate and consult extensively with local groups, in particular our Traditional Owners.  Our measures, particularly the current temporary ceasing of buses to town for our Port Hedland FIFO employees and the introduction of the free personal shopper service, are the result of this consultation and have been in line with our industry peer group in the region.

Roy Hill has had COVID controls in place since the very start of the pandemic. These controls are reviewed at the end of each month and amended as necessary to ensure alignment with the current level of risk and community feedback. We have had additional controls in place across our operations in May in recognition of the increased risk that came with the increased numbers on-site for our major shutdowns taking place this month.  The next planned review of controls will take place by 31 May 2022.

Since the very start, Roy Hill’s COVID controls have intended to:

  1. Keep our employees and the contractors that work for us safe
  2. Protect the communities where we operate and make sure we don’t impact on their health
  3. Keep our business going – making sure we can keep delivering on our market commitments, continue paying salaries, continue paying contractors and suppliers and continue paying royalties and to support the Australian economy.

The Roy Hill villages are known as some of the best in the Pilbara, with a number of improvements recently implemented and more on the way.

The Gateway Village used by Roy Hill in Hedland has more facilities than most other remote mining FIFO villages enjoy. Some of the facilities and services available at the Gateway Village in Hedland include:

  • Dining Hall with dedicated Roy Hill dining area and upgraded food options for our employees and contractors, serving some of the best food in the Pilbara, including 2GR wagyu and Bannister Downs multi-award-winning dairy products
  • Onsite Tavern with café style and takeaway food options
  • Landscaped outdoor recreation areas including BBQs
  • Amigo 24-hour shop
  • Fully equipped gym with exercise classes
  • Outdoor areas in and around Gateway Village (with direct access) to exercise in the fresh air
  • Recreation room and library
  • Both free-to-air and Foxtel channels available in all rooms

In addition, a daily personal shopper service is also currently available free of charge to Roy Hill employees and contractors to support them to access grocery and pharmacy items which may not be available from the village shop.

Ensuring the health and wellbeing of our staff and that of our local communities remains our focus. We will continue to monitor local community spread, along with Perth case numbers as the departure point for our FIFO employees, and amend measures as and when appropriate.
