Double delight as Roy Hill makes it consecutive Australian Mine of Year Awards

Roy Hill is humbled to have been recognised as Australian Mine of the Year for a second straight year, presented the honour at a glittering awards ceremony in Kings Park, Perth, as part of the annual Australian Mining Prospect Awards.

Having earlier being named the winner of the Excellence in Mine Safety Award, the Australian Mine of the Year rounded out a wonderful evening, reinforcing the commitment and efforts of Roy Hill’s people, and the outstanding leadership of Executive Chairman, Mrs Gina Rinehart AO.

In being awarded Australian Mine of the Year, the judging panel said of Roy Hill:

‘The award celebrates a site that not only reached production goals, but also one that has implemented outstanding safety controls, environmental programs and has shown their capacity to innovate to drive the industry forward.’

The Excellence in Mine Safety gong was presented for Roy Hill’s ‘Safer Summer’ program, a proactive initiative designed to mitigate safety risks posed by the searing temperatures in the Pilbara and the added distractions during the holiday season.

The program made a huge impact with a 36% reduction in recordable injuries compared to the previous summer period.

Similarly, Roy Hill’s work with Nyiyaparli Traditional Owner company Guma, a 100% Indigenous owned business, on its progressive mine rehabilitation program contributed to the overall strong performance of the company.

An experienced civil and mining services company, it was Guma’s first experience with large-scale and complex rehabilitation works, specifically those involving Waste Rock Landforms comprising many lifts, angle changes, and drainage works to ensure it all blended into an undulating natural landscape.

Drawing on their civil expertise and enthusiasm to contribute to the rehabilitation of their country, Guma adopted the requisite skills quickly, securing longer term contracts enabling them to scale their operations and provide more employment opportunities for local Aboriginal people.

Roy Hill has a proud association with the Australian Mining Prospect Awards, winning the Australian Mine of the Year and Mining Innovation gong in 2023 for its groundbreaking interoperable autonomous haulage project, the Mine Project Success of the Year for the expansion of the impressive Wet High Intensity Magnetic Separation (WHIMS) program in 2022, and selected as Australian Mine of the Year alongside Roy Hill Executive Chairman, Mrs Gina Rinehart AO, being presented a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2021.

Congratulations to all award recipients at the 2024 Prospect Awards.
