Construction is set to begin early in the new year on stage two of the Korean War Memorial project – a purpose-built amphitheatre and dedicated community space.

Roy Hill and long-term partner POSCO have provided $1 million in funding to the Perth Korean War Memorial Committee for the construction of the venue opposite the Korean War Memorial, in Kings Park.

Landscape Architects Plan E have been awarded the design and build contract and the amphitheatre will be completed by late 2024. The amphitheatre will support a range of performances including music events, theatre productions and community activities and follows completion and the unveiling of the Perth Korean War Memorial earlier this year.

Roy Hill Executive Chairman Mrs Gina Rinehart AO said, “We should never forget the service and sacrifice of our veterans.”

“This new stunning outdoor performance space nestled within a beautiful natural parkland setting will become a welcoming environment reflecting the values of freedom and democracy our veterans fought and died to defend.”

“We’re very pleased to be partnering again with our friends POSCO,” Mrs Rinehart said.

Hancock Prospecting Operations CEO Gerhard Veldsman said he hoped the new amphitheatre would benefit the whole city.

“Roy Hill and all Hancock Prospecting companies have a proud history of supporting our defence force and veterans.

“This new amphitheatre will become a fantastic new venue for peaceful activities and a great way to honour the past while looking towards honouring our veterans in future with upcoming future generations.”

POSCO WA Managing Director Kihoon Pyo said POSCO was very pleased to partner with Hancock Prospecting and Roy Hill in a project that not only acts as a symbol of remembrance but also celebrates the spirit of togetherness.
