Celebrating Australia’s golden athletes

The swimming competition at the Commonwealth Games wrapped up last week and out of the 52 finals, Australia won 25 gold medals, while also grabbing 20 silver and 20 bronze. Our Executive Chairman Mrs Rinehart is the patron of Australia’s swimmers and has helped these athletes shine on the world stage for decades, the Birmingham Commonwealth Games are no exception.

The Australian Beach Volleyballers also excelled with men’s duo Chris McHugh and Paul Burnett winning gold and the women’s pairing of Mariafe Artacho del Solar and Taliqua Clancy taking home the silver.

With the Games in its final day of competition, Australia proudly sits on the top of the medal table with an outstanding 66 gold medals, 55 silver and 53 bronze. We can all be proud of the team’s outstanding efforts over the last two weeks.

As Roy Hill celebrates its exciting partnership with the Australian Olympic Committee this month, it’s been great watching so many athletes, some of whom will also be representing Australia at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, perform so well.

As part of this celebration, last week we hosted three events with non-competing athletes at our Perth, Port and Rail offices.

Athletes spoke to attendees about the hard work, commitment and resilience required to ensure they perform at their best for Australia on the world stage. There were also lively, audience-led Q&A sessions giving our employees an added insight into the dedication and sacrifices it takes to make it to the top.

Thank you to Hannah Cross (former artistic swimmer) and Jamie Roberts (canoeing) both Olympians who work at Roy Hill, and Olympic Gold medallists Lucy Stephan OAM and Annabelle McIntyre OAM (Rowing) who dialled in from Sydney for our Perth event. Also thanks to Commonwealth Games gold medallist Blair Evans (former swimmer) and Becchara Palmer (former beach volleyball player) who visited our Port and Rail offices.

We will host another event at the mine later this month to round out celebrations.
